Early June at the Movies

I’ve been to the movies a few times over the past week. Here are some thoughts on what i’ve seen:

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - I’ve seen the two previous Harry Potter movies and this one is by far the best of the series. I liked the bus ride sequence, Gary Oldman as the prisoner, and the Back to the Future-ish ending.

Saved! - This one is a throwback to the 1980s high school teen comedies like Heathers. A lot of the humor targets ultra-conservative christian lifestyle. Funny stuff. Martin Donovan as Pastor Skip has all of the movie’s biggest laughs.

Love Me If You Dare - Oui Oui! Another French love story. I was distracted by how much the lead actor looked like Patrick Dempsey of Can’t Buy Me Love and Loverboy fame. The film’s visual style owes a lot to Amelie. I wanted to like this much more than i actually did. The ending really falls short of what they were trying for.
