Telemarketers

In an attempt to keep the mood light here at work, every now and then we’ll take a small break. One of my favorite breaktime activities involves telemarketers. There is a company that calls us multiple times every week, trying to sell us a postage machine. We don’t need a postage meter. The first twenty times that this company called, I politely refused their offer. They’ve kept calling. They just won’t take no for an answer, so lately i’ve decided to talk to them. When they call, i’ll ask them to identify themselves. Once they do, I call Tony over and put them on speakerphone. The guy will go into his rehearsed speech about the postage meters. Then I interupt him with questions like “Will you tell me that you love me?” and “OK, but what do i get for free?”. Tony has offered up some good suggestions such as, “Are you hungry?” and “My foot hurts.” It’s amasing how long the telemarketer will go before they hang up.
