Halloween Candy
This is my first Halloween as a homeowner. I’m looking forward to handing out candy. It’s fun to see what the kids are dressing up as these days. My guess is that i’ll be seeing a lot of Spongebobs and Shreks. In preparation for Sunday, I went to Target this morning to get the candy. I may have gone a...

Go Packers!
From CBS Sportsline: And the next president is… Stat: Since voters elected Franklin Roosevelt to his first of four terms in 1932, the Redskins have forecast the next president of the United States. Over the past 18 elections, a Redskins victory in their last home game before Election Day has preceded a victory by the incumbent party. A home loss...

I just want to take a moment to holla at: Bryan, my friend the internet super genius, who is starting his own business. Monkey business, that is. Congrats buddy. All of my friends at One Choice, thanks for the extra special help this week and last week. Joe, Mike, Jennifer, Rox, Dianna, Maria and everyone else - You guys are...

Dawn Of The Dead
Tony made a run to Best Buy. I asked him to pick me up a copy of the just released Dawn of the Dead (the 2004 remake) DVD. He brought me back the widescreen “Unrated Extended Director’s Cut, Too Scary For Theaters!” version which came with a limited edition bonus disc. I love DVDs with lots of extras. This one...

Tony, Why Won't You Give Me A Hug?

Boy, Was I Wrong.
Congratulations to the Boston Red Sox and Dan Cody for their equally impressive victories last night. My money was on Buchs, knowing what a fierce competitor he is. Both men performed admirably. In the end, Cody had a much bigger appetite. I lost a couple of bets, but it was worth it to hear Bryan’s priceless rendition of Kelis’...

Alex Lloyd
Australian singer/songwriter Alex Lloyd’s Watching Angels Mend is one of the my favorite albums of the past few years. It’s hopeful romantic pop in the same vein as Coldplay or David Gray. “Bus Ride” and “Amazing” are fantastic songs. This weekend, I found an import copy of Lloyd’s 2003 follow-up to Watching Angels Mend. The new disc, Distant Light is...

Game Four 2004 ALCS
I watched the end of the Yankee/Red Sox game last night to see the Yanks celebrate another World Series birth. Instead of that I got an entertaining hour or so of extra inning playoff baseball. The best part was the replay of Mariano Rivera’s reaction to Bill Mueller’s single in the bottom of the ninth. The Brian Cashman “Oh…Shit” reaction...

The Wait Is Over
After talking about it for a while, my good friend Jim has started up his own web log. I’ve been looking forward to this because few people have the ability to make me laugh like Jim does. Thanks to internet super geniuses, Bryan and Dan (the same brilliant team behind the design and hosting of The Life of Leisure), Jim...

Waking Up With The King
You are not going to believe this! This morning I found a big surprise as I woke up in my bed. What did I find, you ask? A big plastic headed smiley faced Burger King. You know, the guy from the fast food restaurant of the same name. It was as if he was just sitting there waiting for me...

October Movie Reviews
I Heart Huckabees - Although it presents ideas that can be a little difficult to wrap your brain around at times, trying to navigate through them is part of the fun. Its inspired craziness is reminiscent of the Charlie Kaufman movies. The Jon Brion music that you hear in the trailer is used perfectly to glue the story together. All...

I know it was you, Fredo. You broke my heart.
Starting October 15th, the Times (in Washington Heights) will be showing The Godfather Part II. If you haven’t ever seen it, go next week. If you haven’t seen the first one either, rent it tonight, then go to the Times next week. In the film, Al Pacino’s Michael Corleone comes into his own. Robert DeNiro’s Vito in Italy stuff is...

Nova Cena
Yesterday morning, I was on my way to the Starbucks in downtown Wauwatosa when I drove past a little cafe I had never noticed before. I decided to check it out. The place, Nova Cena, is a nice cafe/bakery. I had breakfast, a ham and cheese omelet with green peppers. It was served with a roll from their bakery. Fantastic....

The Chicago International Film Festival
The 40th Chicago Film Fest started this weekend and runs through the 21st. I went a few years ago and had a good time. I’m hoping to make it this year. Their website has a list of the films that will be shown. These are the ones that I think look good: Primer, Sideways, Finding Neverland, Day and Night, The...

Thursday Night Television
Last night after making dinner and getting into my pajamas, I turned into a vegetable in front of the TV. Some of my thoughts: Survivor - What an unlikable bunch of castaways. The allure of these types of shows is that you find yourself rooting for, or against someone. I’m bored with these people. The Apprentice - I watch...

A Dirty Shame
A few months ago John Waters spoke at UWM as a part of their Distinguished Lecturers series. He told some great stories about Divine, who starred in many of his films, among other things. It was very interesting. Unfortunately, the same can not be said for his new movie, A Dirty Shame. It’s a bore. The film’s plot: Uptight...

I Heart iTunes
This morning I looked on iTunes for something new to buy. I narrowed my choices to: REM’s Around The Sun, Fatboy Slim’s Palookaville, William Shatner’s Has Been and Cake’s Pressure Chief, all released today. I liked the new songs that they played in Chicago a few weeks back, so I purchased the Cake album. After having a listen, it’s...

Cellular
There’s not a whole lot to this movie. A woman gets kidnapped, her family is in danger and her only hope is a irresponsible twentysomething slacker who she contacts via his cell phone while being held captive. This movie is silly, but in a good way. It successfully plays off of the completely ridiculous nature of the situation. It...

Jason Falkner
I ran across this exciting news on Billboard.com this morning. Can You Still Feel? is a fantastic album. I’m looking forward to the new one. Also, the band he’ll be producing, Magnet, is great. Their album from last year, On Your Side, is full of catchy pop tunes reminiscent of Ed Harcourt. Billboard’s Jason Falkner story...
