Cellular
There’s not a whole lot to this movie. A woman gets kidnapped, her family is in danger and her only hope is a irresponsible twentysomething slacker who she contacts via his cell phone while being held captive. This movie is silly, but in a good way. It successfully plays off of the completely ridiculous nature of the situation. It works because it doesn’t pretend to be something that it’s not. The writers took a “throw everything but the kitchen sink” approach to writing the script. It includes, an honest cop (William H. Macy, who’s great in everything he’s in) on the day of his retirement and a slew of corrupt cops, which includes Jason Statham. The lead actor, Chris Evans is very likable. The tone of the movie is perfect for what it is, way over the top, dumb fun.
