SpongeBob Squarepants
I’ve had limited exposure to SpongeBob Squarepants, but I find myself fascinated by the cartoon phenomenon about this spongeman who wears a shirt and tie and lives in an underwater pineapple. I only know SpongeBob from seeing his image is on t-shirts, beach towels, cereal boxes, etc.
Over the weekend I saw The Incredibles. Before the movie played, a preview for the SpongeBob movie came on. The kids in the audience lost it. They were clapping, screaming and crying. SpongeBob and his starfish(?) friend drive around around in a hamburger, eat ice cream and team up with David Hasslhoff. What is this? Why are these kids going nuts? Am I in hell? None of it made sense to me. Was it supposed to? Probably not, but i’m strangely drawn to it.
I’m on the Flaming Lips e-mail list. They sent me a link to the SpongeBob movie website. They have an original song on the soundtrack. Here’s the link. Wilco and The Shins also have songs on the disc. You can hear them on the site.
