Get Well Pope

On behalf of the entire The Life of Leisure staff, I would like to wish the Pope a speedy recovery.

John Paul II, we’re worried about your health and hope that everything is going to be o.k.

Wasn’t there a pope painting in the six?

We had both a painting of the Pope and a painting of Jesus on a log hanging on the walls of the Six. I have the Pope, but i’m not sure who took J.C.

I think I have the log Jesus stowed away somewhere…right next to the “3306” address plate.

During our weekly Monday morning meeting, the news editor handed out “The Pope is Dead” assignments and we talked about how we’ll cover it and who we’ll call locally when the word is given that John Paul II dies.

That’s not uncommon, obviously, in the news business. You have to be prepared to do a lot in a short time when a major figure dies. Still, it’s eerie when I walk past the TV in the newsroom and the CNN crawl has some Pope news on it. I’m on this weird Pope deathwatch.

Hey Pope! Get better, OK. I don’t have time this week to go talk to a bunch of priests about your dying.

I say the Pope is with us for at least another 4 years or so. The guy’s a faker. Like Namath milking a hard hit for framatic purpose.
