Late Afternoon Matinee

I usually treat myself to a Friday matinee after work. It’s a nice way to start the weekend. Last week, I caught Kung Fu Hustle. It was really good, a nice departure from the crouching tiger/hero/flying daggers stuff that’s become the new standard for the genre. Great slapstick. This week nothing in the movie listings is jumping out at me. I might check out Danny Boyle’s Millions. I’ve heard it’s a heartwarming tale, and who doesn’t like heartwarming tales?

I already have plans to go see XXX: State of the Union on May 19th. Seriously though, I wonder if Ice Cube was really the first guy they offered this to when Vin Diesel passed.

I would say that the depth chart of potential XXX’s were:

X: Vin Diesel 1. Matt McConaughey 2. Paul Walker 3. Vin Diesel’s stand in 4. Jeff Speakman 5. Ice Cube 6. John Stamos

How did cube go from counterculture #1 and Fuc&*in tha Police to pudgy barbershop employee/ shoe-horned in action star?

America is so weird, great, amazing and underwhelming all at once when you look at things like this.
