The Fearless Freaks

The Flaming Lips documentary The Fearless Freaks came out today on DVD. I picked up a copy and watched it tonight.

The film covers the band members’ lives from childhood all the way to their current success. It’s a fascinating story. The music is fantastic and the concert video brings back great memories.

Filmmaker Bradley Beesley is a close friend of the Lips and gets incredible access to them. The interviews are quite candid. For example, there’s a segment in the film where Steven Drozd, at a very low moment, is being interviewed while shooting heroin. Drozd goes on to kick the addiction prior to recording Yoshimi. Wayne Coyne is one of the most interesting guys in music. You can’t help but to like him and root for the band’s further success. It’s a really good film. If you’re a fan of the band, give it a look.
