McQueen on TCM

Turner Classic Movies and American Movie Classics are fantastic channels. You’re almost always guaranteed to find something interesting on. For example, tonight TCM is airing a new documentary, Steve McQueen - The Essence of Cool. They’ll also be running a few of his movies over the next couple of nights: Bullitt tonight, The Great Escape tomorrow, and The Magnificent Seven on Friday.

I have the special edition DVD of The Great Escape - it’s fantastic. Another of my favourites is “Papillion”.

Last night I watched the new documentary. Outstanding stuff.

My favorite moment is when the people involved with the making of Bullitt acknowledge it’s not much of a story but GOOD LORD is that a car chase or what?! Also, they spend a lot of time talking about how McQueen was so cool in it.

Another thing I enjoyed was Ali McGraw. Man oh man, the guy had Ali McGraw and was considered the coolest actor in all the world. What happened? I guess everybody has their demons.
