A New Bond

Goodbye Pierce Brosnan, Hello Daniel Craig.

I love the idea of James Bond. He’s cool, suave, and dangerous. He drives the best cars, has the coolest gadgets and beds more than his share of beautiful exotic women. Not to mention, he saves the world on a regular basis. When I was young, my friends wanted to be policemen, firemen, basketball players, etc. I wanted to be Bond. To this day, whenever I’m in doubt about an important decision, I consider WWJBD?

I think the selection of actors to play the part have been real hit or miss. Sean Connery was the best. You can’t argue with that. It’s a fact. On the other hand, Timothy Dalton was probably the least inspired choice to play the role.

If you aren’t familiar with the newest Bond, Daniel Craig. Go out and rent Layer Cake. In it he demonstrates the cool as a cucumber demeanor that is necessary to have when playing Bond. His performance in the film will remind you of a young Connery.

I liked Brosnan in the role, but I’m thrilled with the selection of Craig.

I think it’s a good choice, hopefully they’ll put Layer Cake Hottie, Sienna Miller, in as a Bond Girl. To me Bond is pretty boring at this point, I think the Bourne movies are far superior for contemporary audiences and resonate and have better action and seem very real and grounded. Bond never really reflects the time that the movies are made in, it’s just the same thing over and over and over. Would you listen to the Beatles if they just put out Abbey Road every 2 years for 45 years?
