2005 at the Movies

There are a lot of movies that I haven’t seen yet (like Brokeback Mountain, Match Point, Capote), but from what I saw here are my favorites:

  • The very best: Murderball, Me You and Everyone We Know, Sin City, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, 40-Year-Old Virgin, and The Squid and the Whale

  • The rest of my 2005 favorites (in no particular order): Batman Begins, Melinda and Melinda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, A History of Violence, Hustle and Flow, Layer Cake, Kung Fu Hustle, Crash, Walk the Line, Corpse Bride, Munich, King Kong, Old Boy, and Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit

  • Most Overrated Movie of the Year- Cinderella Man

  • Most Underratted Movie of the Year - Elizabethtown

  • Biggest Disappointment - George A. Romero’s Land of the Dead

  • The Passion of the Christ Award (for the movie that I will most likely never see) - The Chronicles of Narnia

  • The Worst Movie of the Year (that I didn’t see in its entirety) - Bewitched. I walked out an hour into it.

  • The Worst Movie of the Year (that I sat through) - The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3D

  • The rest of the really bad movies that I’ve sat through (in no particular order): Wolf Creek, The Ice Harvest, The Ringer, Kicking and Screaming, Guess Who, The Dukes of Hazzard, Fun with Dick and Jane, White Noise, Derailed, The Interpreter and Racing Stripes

Jeebus, you see a lot of movies!

A few notes:

I received the Super-Duper-Director’s-Cut Edition of “Sin City” for christmas. Haven’t watched it yet, but looking forward to it.

I can’t believe you’re not going to see the “Chronic-What?!-cles of Narnia”. Actually, I can - I’m not going to see it either… but I wanted to drop a reference to the SNL vid.

Glad to hear that “Elizabethtown” wasn’t as bad as the reviews it got - absolutely skewered by everyone I read. I was really looking forward to that one, but left it alone.

Another movie I had PLANNED on seeing was “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”. But I hear that you & Andrew saw it.
