Chuck's Oscar Predictions

Here are my early predictions for this year’s Oscars. Who I think is going to win is in bold, who I’m pulling for is underlined. I’ve seen everything except Transamerica, Mrs. Henderson (Harry and the Hendersons turned me off to all future Henderson movies), and Junebug. Best Picture BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK. CRASH CAPOTE MUNICH Actor...

The Matador

I snuck out a little early Friday afternoon to see a matinee of The Matador with Pierce Brosnan and Greg Kinnear. It’s the first movie of the year to receive what Jim refers to as the “Rozewicz Rocketship”, my highest movie rating. When asked about a movie that I really liked, I’ll occasionally illustrate my enthusiasm by holding both...

Arrested Development

It amazes me that a show as good as Arrested Development never found an audience. It looks like Fox is running the final four episodes on Friday February 10th. GOB is the funniest character on TV. I’ll miss him and the rest of the Bluths....

The Guy Who Sat Next To Me During Match Point

The first showing of Match Point at the Oriental started at 12:45 pm Saturday afternoon. I arrived around 12:30, bought refreshments, and had 10 minutes to spare as I found my seat. If the theater isn’t full, I like to pick an area to sit with additional space away from others. I found a spot about three rows back from...

Match Point

Woody Allen is the man. After a long drought, he put out two really good movies over the last year. I saw Match Point Saturday afternoon and was blown away. It’s fantastic. The other movie, Melinda and Melinda was very good. It’s worth a rent if you missed it. Match Point reminded me of Crimes and Misdemeanors, but without...

Kenny Vs. Spenny

A reminder for the Kenny Vs. Spenny fans: Season Two episodes are finally airing on GSN (1:00am CST Saturday night going into Sunday morning). Last weekend they ran the “Who can kiss more women?” episode. If you haven’t seen this show yet, set your DVR, especially you Jim - you’d love it....

Millennium Park is one of my favorite parts of Chicago. The park’s pavilion would have been a cool place to see Radiohead....

Reading is Fun...

RIF (Reading Is Fundamental), the children’s literacy organization ran PSAs during the cartoons I watched growing up. Their commercials always ended with a bunch of overly gleeful kids shouting “Reading is Fundamental!”. The kids in the neighborhood loved to make fun of the ad. They changed “fundamental” to “fun for the mental”. Terrible, I know. There was a boy...

PJs

Looking through some recent pictures, I found this one of my nephew Jake sporting his one-piece-PJs. Think back to the time when you had one. Weren’t they super comfortable? Don’t you wish that they made them for adults?! Here’s a free idea: Somebody, Anybody!! Make one-piece Pajamas for adults. If they made some big enough for me and slapped...

The Retirement Party

A special thanks goes out to all of my peeps who were able to attend my Dad’s retirement party last weekend. There was a huge turn out and my Dad had a great time. He called me the next day to ask if we could do it again next week. Click here for a snapshot of one of the...

Sufjan Stevens

Over the holidays I received a staggering amount of gift cards. I cashed in one them recently to pick up Sufjan Stevens’ latest CD, Come On Feel the Illinoise! If you’re ever in the mood for a quick history lesson set to beautiful pop music, pick this up. Aside from its clever title, the disc caught my attention after...

NFL Conference Championship Games

With the Colts and Patriots out of the playoffs, I can’t say that I have much of a rooting interest in the NFL playoffs from here on out. Broncos, Steelers, Seahawks and Panthers, not a fan of any of them. Hold on a second! Broncos QB Jake Plummer does have an awesome mustache, so maybe we could root for...

Drakkar Noir

Paging through a men’s magazine this morning, I noticed that many of the publication’s advertisers really wanted me to buy either vodka, a fancy wrist watch or cologne. I could use a new watch and occasionally enjoy a vodka drink, but cologne?!! Does anyone wear cologne daily anymore and if so why? Back in the day - my senior...

R.I.P. David Palmer

In the first few minutes of last night’s 24 season premiere. The show’s writers gave a big “f-you” to fans of the series. They killed off one of the show’s best characters, former President David Palmer. I’ve watched the first four seasons of 24. They’ve declined in quality over the years. I should really just stop watching, but then...

Mr. Gnu

Back in my days at the UWM Post, the paper ran one of the funniest comic strips I’ve ever read. It was called Mr. Gnu and drawn by Travis Dandro. Something reminded me of it today, so I did a few searches. Unfortunately, I was only able to find one of the strips. Here it is....

Kim Jong Illin'

I found this picture (click on it to enlarge) on Drudge’s site. I’m really not sure why, but I found it kind of funny. Maybe it has something to do with the “power pose” in combination with the disinterested look on the faces of his lackeys....

Don't be a Clouseau

I saw a few movies over the weekend (Brokeback - Good, Syriana - Great, and Hostel - a lot of fun). Marcus Theaters are running this “Don’t be a Clouseau. Get a clue. Turn off your cell phone” spot before movies featuring Steve Martin as Inspector Clouseau. He’s sitting in a theater when his cell phone goes off to...

2006 is going to be a great year, maybe the best year ever. Here’s a short list of things I’m looking forward to in the new year. My Dad’s retirement party My Pops finally rides out into the sunset after 40 years with Post Office. He loved it so much, I never thought he’d retire. It should be a...

My Lazy New Years Day

My first day of the new year was a pretty relaxed one. I had myself a lazy Sunday on the couch. I watched the Packers. Even with the meaningless win, 4-12 is miserable. Please don’t retire, Brett. In the words of Dennis DeYoung, “Don’t let it end this way”. Connie bought me a copy of Three… Extremes for Christmas....
