Don't be a Clouseau

I saw a few movies over the weekend (Brokeback - Good, Syriana - Great, and Hostel - a lot of fun).

Marcus Theaters are running this “Don’t be a Clouseau. Get a clue. Turn off your cell phone” spot before movies featuring Steve Martin as Inspector Clouseau. He’s sitting in a theater when his cell phone goes off to the tune of the Pink Panther theme. He then puts the phone on vibrate, which causes him to vibrate out of his seat. It’s terrible.

I’ve seen it twice and am convinced that Martin as Clouseau in another Pink Panther remake is easily one of the worst ideas to come along in a while.

What happened to Steve Martin?! When did he stop making funny movies? I looked on imdb’s website. Planes, Trains & Automobiles and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels were released 18 years ago.

You couldn’t be more right. That Pink Panther makes me cringe every time I see it. The audience’s positive reception makes me cringe even more.
