Looking Forward

2006 is going to be a great year, maybe the best year ever. Here’s a short list of things I’m looking forward to in the new year.

  • My Dad’s retirement party

My Pops finally rides out into the sunset after 40 years with Post Office. He loved it so much, I never thought he’d retire. It should be a great bash, and it’s only a week away.

  • The Life of Leisure visits the nation’s capitol this Spring

I’ll be joining my Dad for one of his Postal conventions. The early plans include a Nationals game vs. the Baltimore Orioles, a trip to the International Spy Museum and many beers shared with (as well as purchased by) my old man.

  • The New Pornographers with Belle and Sebastian March 11 at the Riverside

Along with The Flaming Lips tour, this figures to be one of 2006’s must see shows.

  • The new Flaming Lips disc, At War With the Mystics comes out on April 4th

I’ve listened to Yoshimi a few thousand times. It’ll be nice to hear some new Lips.

  • Another European Vacation

Spain looks to be the front runner right now.

  • Lots and lots of movies

I love movies, you love movies. We’ll probably spend a great deal of time talking about them here.

Here’s an early list of what has me jazzed: Superman, V for Vendetta, Daniel Craig as Bond in Casino Royale, the Tenacious D movie, the new Albert Brooks’ Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World, Scorcese’s Infernal Affairs remake, and many more.

  • Bucks and Brewers as playoff contenders

I’m not a huge NBA fan, but who don’t like the Bucks?! Hopefully they won’t suffer any more injuries. I’m ready for a Bucks/Pistons Eastern Conference finals. As for the Brewers, Doug Melvin is a genius. He’s put together a pretty good team. The wild card is a realistic goal this year.
