Match Point
Woody Allen is the man. After a long drought, he put out two really good movies over the last year. I saw Match Point Saturday afternoon and was blown away. It’s fantastic. The other movie, Melinda and Melinda was very good. It’s worth a rent if you missed it.
Match Point reminded me of Crimes and Misdemeanors, but without the comedy. It’s sharply written and well acted, especially Scarlett Johansson. I’ve never thought much of Johansson. Yes, she’s very attractive, but I’ve never been impressed by her in the past. Lost in Translation was good, but I think you could have substituted her with many other 20-something actresses and still had pretty close to the same movie. Not here though. She’s great in this movie. Her scenes with Jonathan Rhys-Meyers are amazing.
