The Matador
I snuck out a little early Friday afternoon to see a matinee of The Matador with Pierce Brosnan and Greg Kinnear.
It’s the first movie of the year to receive what Jim refers to as the “Rozewicz Rocketship”, my highest movie rating. When asked about a movie that I really liked, I’ll occasionally illustrate my enthusiasm by holding both of my thumbs up and make a rocket blasting noise while lifting them into the air. I expect that one day the “Rocketship” will be adopted by many as the new standard for expressing your feeling toward a great deal of things.
Brosnan’s carefree hitman and Kinnear’s uptight businessman are the newest version of The Odd Couple. They have great chemistry and are a lot of fun to watch. It’s one of those movies about an unusual friendship that sneaks up on you and leaves you wanting more. It kind of reminded me of Midnight Run in that way. Let’s hope that Brosnan plays more great characters like this one in his post-Bond days.
