Pirates and Cars

Connie and I went to the drive-In Friday night for a double feature of Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and Cars.

Most of the big movies I’ve seen this year (DaVinci, X3, Superman, Poseiden, Nacho, Click and The Break Up) have been lousy, so it was nice to see a pair of fun summer flicks.

Cars is one of the stronger Pixar efforts, but the movie to see of the two is Pirates. My expectations weren’t real high, so I was a little surprised by how good it was. It’s the amazing movie spectacle that I’ve been waiting a long time for. The action sequences and effects are impressive. There are a lot of laughs. Depp has perfect comic timing. The main villian Davy Jones is fantastic. Two and half hours fly by. The ending is perfect and a great set up for Pirates 3. It gets my highest rating, the rocketship. I can’t wait for next summer to see how it ends.

Yeah, I concur. Surprisingly good and balanced. Really nice follow up movie. FX are freaking amazing. Davy Jones is all Motion Capture like Gollum……not even a real dude there. Blows my mind.

…..wait until Chow Yun Fat shows up in part three.

Along with “Strangers with Candy” I highly reccomend POTC: DMC as a great summer film.
