Chuck presents "Good News for Bryan Buchs": 2007 will be a great year for the Milwaukee Brewers

Hope springs eternal. The Brewers are going to be pretty good this year. Unfortunately, the National League Central (the Cubs are looking good too) will probably be one of the tougher divisions in baseball. Having said that, I still think that the team is a playoff contender, here’s why:

  • Pitching! Rarely will you ever see a team, even with the best sluggers, make the playoffs without pitching. The Brewers have pitching. Ben Sheets, Chris Capuano and Jeff Suppan - That’s a fantastic top three of any major league pitching rotation. Not to mention, the Brewers will still have Francisco Cordero, from the Carlos Lee deal, closing games. After the Turnbow fiasco took the team out of the playoff hunt last season, Cordero looked great replacing him.

  • A strong line up! Johnny Estrada - a big upgrade behind the plate, Rickie Weeks and Prince Fielder - It’s only year two for both and they’re going to get a lot better , Bill Hall - C’mon! The guy hits home runs for his Mom on Mother’s Day, Kevin Mench - he just signed a one year deal and has a lot to prove, last year he got off to a hot start when he was playing for Texas, the guy has HUGE potential.

… and I’m still not going to see them this year. For those of you paying attention, that’s 7 years since I’ve actually attended a major-league baseball game.

And running.

I’d like to say additionally to Bryan that I have never been a paying customer at Miller Park. So weird. I have been there for multiple games and stuff but only while I was working there professionally, never as a game-going fan (shooting the roof open, Mr. 3000 Disney shoot, WI Tourism shoots and I one time helped NESN Red Sox TV in a pinch)

In some Ghandi-like streak and holdout maybe I can make it to age 75 or death without ever paying for a ticket but attending many games. The funny thing is at age 75 for me, they will still be 4 games out of the wild-card spot and have a 50 million dollar payroll.
