Chuck talks about the 2007 Oscars

Yesterday morning the nominations were announced for this year’s Oscars.

In case you missed them, click here.

I didn’t get around to seeing as many movies as usual this year, but here are a few thoughts about the nominations:

  • My favorite movie of last year that wasn’t nominated for anything: Stranger Than Fiction
  • Overrated: Little Miss Sunshine and Blood Diamond
  • Underrated: Apocalypto
  • Magician movies - I liked both, but if you can only see one of them, The Prestige is the way to go.
  • Nominated movies that I probably will never see: Dreamgirls - I kind of thought I might want to see it at first, but the longer that it’s been in theaters, the less I have a desire to.
  • Connie and I saw Babel over the weekend. Good, not great.
  • Pan’s Labyrinth is amazing. Double Turbo Rocketships!
  • Nominees that I still really want to see: Children of Men, Half Nelson, Last King of Scotland, Little Children and The Queen
  • One of my favorite scenes of the year - from The Departed: Alec Baldwin to Matt Damon: “I’m gonna go have a smoke right now. You want a smoke? You don’t smoke, do ya, right? What are ya, one of those fitness freaks, huh? Go fuck yourself.”
  • I loved The Departed and I hope it wins everything it’s up for.
