March Movies 2007
Here’s what I’ve seen lately with some thoughts.
The Lives of Others - The best movie out right now. It’s an amazing piece of storytelling, but incredibly sad.
300 - I just sat there in awe of the whole spectacle of it all. It’s gruesome, but if you can take the violence, you have to see it.
Zodiac - Interesting story. The two hours and forty minutes fly by. I particularly liked the attention to 1970s detail that they put into it. Robert Downey is the shit. I could watch that guy in just about anything. Speaking of Downey, If you haven’t seen Kiss Kiss Bang Bang yet, it’s been on HBO a lot lately. Check it out. That’s outstanding too.
Hot Fuzz - Much like Shaun of the Dead, this movie is the smartest kind of spoof, it embraces the things that it’s poking fun at, and it’s really funny. Plus there’s a ton of “Holy shit!” and “Hell yeah!!” moments through out.
The Number 23 - Wow! What a complete piece of crap! The movie is an incoherent mess. Seriously, it hardly makes a lick of sense. Jim Carrey is Nick Cage-level over-the-top laughable in it. It’s the first movie in a while that I walked out on, so who knows, it might have gotten much better in the last half hour. I guess I’ll never know.
Reno 911!: Miami - I really wanted to like this. I love the TV show, and all of the other stuff the people from The State have done. Unfortunately, it’s uneven. There are big laughs, especially ten minutes in as the cops check into their motel. There just aren’t enough of them.
